Borealis Chamber Artists connects local professional musicians with opportunities to present diverse repertoire at a high artistic level, cultivating a deep appreciation of the arts in the greater Twin Ports community.

Founders

Richard Carrick

Richard Carrick is a conductor, clinician, singer, and educator. He is the Director of Choral Activities at The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN, Director of Music at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary, Chorus Master for the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra, and a founding member and conductor of the Borealis Chamber Artists. Richard holds a D.M.A. in Choral Conducting from the University of Washington where he studied with Geoffrey Boers and Giselle Wyers. When not working with choirs, Richard can be found on a trail somewhere in the woods, or baking with his children.

Patrick Russell

Patrick Russell is a conductor, pianist, singer, composer, and educator. As Director of Music at Pilgrim Congregational Church in Duluth, he directs the choir and plays regularly for services, including the harpsichord every chance he gets. He began teaching piano and voice at Encore Music Studios in Duluth this fall, and specializes in audition coaching. He regularly accompanies soloists, cabarets, and choirs, and is a founding member of the Twin Ports Choral Project. Patrick is an active theater artist in the Duluth area as a music director, pianist, and actor at venues including the Duluth Playhouse, UMD, UWS, CSS, and Renegade Theater Company. 

Brian Kapp

Brian Kapp is the owner and operator of Encore Music Studios, and an instructor of Voice, Piano, and Organ. He is a native of central and southern Illinois, holding a Bachelor of Music degree in Keyboard Performance from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and a Master of Arts degree in Liturgical Music with an emphasis in Voice Performance from St. John's University in Collegeville, MN. As a musician, Brian has served in many capacities across Southern Illinois and throughout Minnesota. He is Organist/Pianist at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary in Duluth, and is accompanist of the dementia-friendly community choir, The Victory Chorus.
